Proton, a well-known privacy-focused company with a user base of more than 100 million worldwide, has released their new product — an end-to-end encrypted video conferencing platform named Meet — positioning it as a privacy-first alternative to Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.

The company has said that they have created this application with end-to-end encryption, where users don’t want to share their data with any providers or don’t want their personal information to end up in leaks. Users can simply visit meet.proton.me without any actual account from Proton, and on the other end, users are also able to join the meeting without any account. The meeting can go up to 1 hour and it is limited to 50 users. If you want to go higher or need to increase your participant limit, you have to subscribe to their monthly plans.

If you really want your meeting to be end-to-end encrypted, you can try this platform. I have tried this and it is really good — the UI and everything is the same as Google Meet, and the options as well, so you won’t find any difficulties using this platform. It is very simple to use: just create a link, share it, and anyone can join the meeting without any email ID, and then you can end it easily without a hassle.

But it has some cons as well. If you are having a meeting with limited participants or participants you know, it will be okay. But if you are hosting a conference or online meeting for your community or any classes, you will not be able to identify the participants unless they provide their real-names as their usernames, and you cannot identify the participants after the meeting either. It is good for a limited number of persons.

If you are really concerned about your privacy, you can use this platform, which is very helpful for you.
