Airdrop Is Great — But LocalSend Works on Almost Every Device

Sharing files from one device to another device is a lot easier in Apple products. You just open Airdrop in both the devices, and you can share it feasibly without any struggle. But if you want to share it with an Android device or other Windows system or Linux systems, it involves a lot of struggle.

Before, we used to use applications like Share It to transfer from Apple to Android; that too had so many problems. We used to compose a file and upload the file there and make the email draft or send it to your own email address to get it on your phone, or if the file size is bigger, we would use WeTransfer or Internxt, a privacy-focused file sharing website to share the files between us or with anyone.

Now there are so many options available like Quick Share, which is available in all Android devices as a default application to share files between devices. It also evolved to Windows as well, but it hasn’t worked really well between the devices. With Android it is fine, but between other devices it is still a problem. But there is a solution, and that too from an open-source project.

A guy named Tien Do Nam from Germany has built an open source application named LocalSend. It is available in all devices: Android, iOS, Windows, Linux. You just need to download it — that’s it. When you want to share any files, for example if you want to share a movie with anyone or if you are working on any office documents, you can share it with your colleagues using this application.

No internet required, fully offline. You can share your files between your devices with local WiFi or LAN, and it is totally secure. The application has 5 million downloads in the Google Play Store, and you can download it from their website as well. I have been using it for more than a year and it has been really useful.

If you want seamless transfer, try Local Send. And after using it, if you want to contribute to their project, you can donate through their website. They have a separate page for donation.
